Ivan Stankevich: British and Dutch authorities have started sending young hackers to reform courses instead of jail
Authorities in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have developed correctional courses for young cybercriminals. Representatives of the countries told about it at the international conference of cybersecurity. The rehabilitation program is expected to replace the hacker prison for 12 to 23 years.
After the crime, police will visit the young criminal and explain the situation to the perpetrator instead of threatening him. He will be offered courses ranging from 10 to 20 hours. After that, the offender will be contacted by industry professionals, who will be called upon to explain the prospects of the industry and help him with his educational and professional choices.
Flor Jansen, Advisor to the Dutch National High Crime Unit, said that many hackers often have autism traits. He also noted the low rate of recidivism in cybercrime. Jansen believes that many of these violations have no criminal intent and are often committed to impress friends or for similar reasons.
In order to participate in the program, an intruder must confess to the crime. Also, he should not have a criminal record.
